Proposal to Build a Synchrotron-radiation Detector for Tagging Electrons at the {SSC}
(
  • Proposed: 1989,
  • Approved: Jan 30, 1989,
  • Completed: May 2, 1990
)
The prototype is a lead/scintillating-fiber sandwich, three radiation lengths thick, read out with image intensifiers and CCD's. It will be sensitive to the early development of electromagnetic showers as well as to the synchrotron radiation emitted by electrons as they pass through a high magnetic field. The hope is to tag electron showers in a SSC detector.
