Pierre Auger Collaboration
The Pierre Auger Observatory is an international collaboration to study the highest energy cosmic rays striking the Earth. Two giant detector arrays, each covering 3000 square kilometers are located in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Each consists of 1600 particle detectors and an atmospheric fluorescence detector. The objective of the arrays is to measure the arrival direction, energy, and mass composition of cosmic ray air showers above 10**19 eV.
