Tenure-track Position in Theoretical Elementary Particle Physics

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, invites applications for a tenure-track position in theoretical elementary particle physics at the rank of assistant professor. The appointment will begin August 2014.

The current activities of the high energy theory group in the Department cover aspects of black hole physics, quantum gravity, dark energy, physics beyond the Standard Model, high energy collider physics, particle cosmology and astrophysics, and non-commutative geometry. Expected research areas of the successful candidate may include any of a variety of topics in theoretical elementary particle physics such as physics beyond the Standard Model, applications of particle physics to cosmology and particle astrophysics, quantum gravity, and string theory. The new faculty member would benefit from interaction with the existing experimental groups in the Department: high energy physics at the Large Hadron Collider (CMS), neutrino physics (Double Chooz, EXO, KamLAND, MiniBooNE, LBNE), dark matter search (LZ), and astroparticle physics (IceCube, HAWC). More information about the department can be found on the departmental website, physics.ua.edu.

The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. or equivalent, postdoctoral experience and scholarly publications.Candidates for this position are expected to have an outstanding research record and exhibit potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to develop a high quality, externally funded research program, as well as teach and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
