Abstract: (AIP)
We present measurements, made in Hall A at Jefferson Lab, of the beam-normal single-spin asymmetry An in the elastic scattering of few-GeV electrons from1H,4He,12C, and208Pb. For208Pb, our result is consistent with zero and in strong disagreement with calculations. This may indicate that that 3-γ exchange is an important contribution and offer an opportunity to study Coulomb distortion in heavy nuclei.- Lead
