SuperCDMS Collaboration
The collaboration is designing a completely new experimental apparatus to be situated in the very deep underground laboratory SNOLAB, located near Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The experiment will use improved (and larger) germanium and silicon iZIP detectors, some of which will be operated in the high-voltage CDMSlite mode. The ultra-low energy thresholds provided by these detectors, together with the significant reduction in backgrounds provided by the new facility, will give unprecedented sensitivity to low-mass dark matter particles (light WIMPs), as well as complementary sensitivity to heavier dark matter particles that might be seen in other detectors.
