Job description:
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of California, Riverside (http://www.physics.ucr.edu/) invites highly qualified individuals to apply for a tenure-track faculty position in Theoretical Studies of the Early Universe, including the overlapping areas of cosmology and astroparticle physics. The appointment will be made at the assistant professor level and will be available as early as July 1, 2016. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input. The main selection criteria will be demonstrated excellence in research. The successful candidate is expected to establish an outstanding well-funded research program involving graduate students and postdoctoral scientists, and to contribute to departmental teaching at all levels. She or he will be expected to complement and strengthen the current research effort in theoretical physics and to interact with the experimental/observational group in the department. The Physics and Astronomy department at UCR is currently active in theoretical and experimental high-energy physics, theoretical astroparticle physics, experimental relativistic heavy-ion physics, observational and theoretical astronomy and cosmology, and theoretical and experimental condensed matter physics. UCR is a world-class research university with an exceptionally diverse undergraduate student body. Its mission is explicitly linked to providing routes to educational success for underrepresented and first-generation college students. A commitment to this mission is a preferred qualification. Candidates for this position are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics, or a related field. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualification. Applicants should submit curriculum vitae, list of publications, a statement of research and teaching objectives, and contact information for at least four professional references to the AP Recruit site at http://aprecruit.ucr.edu/apply/JPF00378. For enquiries, please contact the search committee chair (Prof. Jose Wudka; jose.wudka@ucr.edu) or any of the members of the UCR high-energy/astroparticle theory group. Review of applications will commence on December 1, 2015, and will continue until the position is filled. Minorities and members of underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
