The University of South Dakota is seeking applicants for two tenure-track positions in physics at the rank of assistant professor. A Ph.D. in physics and post-doctoral experience is required. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and establish a vigorous, externally-funded research program. Candidates must have backgrounds/research interests in areas such as dark matter searches, neutrino experiments, phenomenology or materials science focused on the development of detectors utilized in an underground environment such as that found at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in western South Dakota. Preference for one position will be given to candidates who are currently members of the Majorana collaboration. Anticipated start date is August 22, 2016, although we will consider a start date of January 4, 2016.

The University of South Dakota is the state's flagship liberal arts university. Housed in USD's College of Arts and Sciences, the physics program currently offers BS, MS and PhD degrees. Faculty members in the department are involved in the LUX/LZ, SuperCDMS, EXO, AARM and DUNE collaborations. The department also houses a state of South Dakota sponsored Research Center, the Center for Ultra-low Background Experiments in the Dakotas (CUBED) and has a Department of Energy EPSCoR award.
