Job description:
Assistant Professor Lines in Theoretical/Computational (Astro)-Particle Physics and Soft Matter Physics.
The Department of Physics at the University at Albany, State University of New York, invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in theoretical/computational (astro)-particle physics and soft matter physics starting in Fall 2016.
The search area for (astro)-particle physics includes cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, and particle phenomenology. Successful candidates will contribute to our growing program in computational physics and will add to our existing strength in string theory, information physics, foundations of quantum mechanics, particle and astroparticle experiments (ATLAS and LUX/LZ).
The search area for soft matter physics includes computational and theoretical aspects of condensed matter physics, biophysics, and chemical physics. Successful candidates will add to our existing strength in information physics with an emphasis on maximum entropy and Bayesian data analysis techniques, and our experimental groups in magnetic resonance, optical, Raman, and X-ray spectroscopy.
Requirements include a Ph.D. in physics or related field and demonstrated scholarly productivity. The doctorate must be from a university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. Successful candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching at all levels and to directing a vigorous and externally funded research program. Diversity is a priority of the university and the department. Applicants must address in their cover letter their ability to work with and instruct a culturally diverse population.
Address applications to Professor Ariel Caticha, Chair, Department of Physics. Applications, which should include a cover letter, vitae, and statements of research plans and teaching philosophy, must be submitted online at https://www.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=66045 (Astro-Particle Physics) or https://albany.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=66008. (Soft Matter Physics). The cover letter must specify candidate’s area of interest (astro-particle physics or soft matter physics). Arrange to have at least three letters of reference sent directly to physics@albany.edu. Inquiries can be sent to this address as well. A review of applications will begin December 15, 2015 and continue until the position is filled.
The University at Albany is an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity/ADA Employer. We have a strong commitment to the affirmation of diversity.
