Abstract:
We present a search for the production of a heavy gauge boson W\mathrm{W^\prime} decaying into a top quark and a bottom quark. The dataset used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 12.9 fb1^{-1} collected by the CMS experiment at s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV during 2016. The final state signature searched for includes a lepton (e,μ\mathrm{e}, \mu) plus jets and missing transverse energy. We find no evidence of a W\mathrm{W^\prime} boson and set 95%\% confidence level (C.L.) upper limits on its production cross-section times branching fraction. For W\mathrm{W^\prime} bosons with purely right handed couplings, the observed (expected) 95%\% C.L. lower limit is 2.67 (2.70) TeV. These are currently the most stringent limits in this channel.
