Abstract:
A search is presented for heavy gauge bosons decaying to a top and bottom quark using data collected by the CMS experiment at s=13 TeV\sqrt{s}=13~\mathrm{TeV} in 2016. The data set analyzed corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb135.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}. Final states that include a single lepton (e,μe,\mu), multiple jets, and missing transverse energy are analyzed. We find no evidence for the production of a W\mathrm{W^\prime} boson, and are able to exclude at 95%95\% confidence level the production of right-handed W\mathrm{W^\prime} bosons with masses below 3.4 TeV3.4~\mathrm{TeV} if MWRMνRM_\mathrm{W^\prime_R}\gg M_{\nu_R} and 3.6 TeV3.6~\mathrm{TeV} if MWR<MνRM_\mathrm{W^\prime_R} < M_{\nu_R} at 95%95\% confidence level. Exclusion limits for W\mathrm{W^\prime} bosons are also presented as a function of their coupling strength to left- and right-handed fermions. The results presented are the most stringent limits published to date in the tb decay channel.
