Job description:
The Particle Physics group of Prof. Markus Schumacher at the University of Freiburg has openings for:

Two Researchers

in the area of Grid/Cloud computing in the context of the ATLAS experiment starting on 30th May, 2019 or later.

Our group has long-standing experience and expertise in Higgs boson physics, operation of WLCG Grid compute and storage clusters and in computing development projects within the ATLAScollaboration.

The successful candidates are expected to participate: a) In the development and validation of novel technologies to incorporate heterogeneous compute resources in the ATLAS workflow (fast data caches, container solutions e.g. singularity) and its monitoring and optimisation. The research will be carried out in a new computing compound in Germany, with participants from 13 institutes from particle, astro-particle and hadron/nuclear physics. b) In the operation and monitoring of the Tier-2 cloud around GridKa and the development of the test framework Hammercloud. Participation in ATLAS data analysis at a level of maximal 33% of the research time is possible.

The positions are initially limited to a duration of two years with the possibility of extension. Payment is according to the E13 salary level of the German TV-L system.
