Job description:
Position Description
The High Energy Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position to work on the ATLAS experiment at the LHC.
The successful candidate is expected to take important roles in developing software for High Performance Computing (HPC). These efforts will be focused on utilizing machine learning techniques for data analysis, event generation, detector simulation, and object reconstruction. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the physics research carried out by the group, which includes Standard Model physics measurements, searches for new physics, Higgs measurements, and development of b-tagging algorithms.
The group is pioneering the effort on ATLAS software workflow on HPC and developing innovative ideas in applying machine learning techniques to challenging problems within ATLAS and High Energy Physics in general. The ATLAS group collaborates with members of the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF). The Argonne group has significant involvement in ATLAS detector operations and has several major upgrade activities including ITk Pixel and TDAQ, ATLAS core software development, machine learning algorithms, and software design for high-performance computers. The group has strong involvement in Standard Model physics measurements, searches for new physics, Higgs measurements, and development of b-tagging algorithms.
Position Requirements
Candidates must have received their Ph.D. in experimental particle physics within three years of the start of the appointment. Applicants should send curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests through the application system https://www.anl.gov/hr/postdoctoral-applicants with Requisition Number 405602 and arrange for three letters of recommendation be sent to hep_letters@anl.gov . For further information, contact Dr. Walter Hopkins at whopkins@anl.gov or Dr. Douglas Benjamin at dbenjamin@anl.gov. Review of applications will begin once the application is completed and will continue until the position is filled.
