A total of 8.6 million J/ ψ produced in the DM2 experiment at DCI have been analyzed looking for the η c in the reaction J ψ →γη c →γφφ , both φ's decaying into two charged kaons. The η c is observed, with m =(2968±5±7)MeV/ c 2 and with a product branching ration for J / ψ → γη c → γφφ , BR = (0.39±0.09±0.09) × 10 −4 . The spin-parity analysis confirms the 0 − assignment obtained by a previous experiment.
