Abstract (APS)
We investigate the finiteness of one-loop N-tachyon amplitudes in lower-dimensional bosonic string theory. When the fermionic fields used to represent the internal degrees of freedom are given antiperiodic boundary conditions, we find that the apparent divergences in the amplitude from soft dilaton emission can be made to cancel when D=26 (mod4). We compare this result to simple toroidal compactification.
