Abstract: (arXiv)
A statistical model that includes Hagedorn states in the hadronic phase is used to estimate the shear viscosity of hadronic matter close to the critical temperature. The inclusion of Hagedorn resonances is shown to lead to a very small shear viscosity to entropy density ratio in the hadronic phase that is comparable to the string theory viscosity bound η/s=1/4π\eta/s=1/4\pi. Our model provides a good description of the recent lattice results for the trace anomaly close to Tc=196T_c=196 MeV. We comment on the effects of Hagedorn states on the bulk viscosity of hadronic matter near the phase transition.
