HERA-B Collaboration
The HERA-B detector was a large-aperture high-rate spectrometer built for studies of collisions of 920 GeV protons with the nuclei of target wires positioned in the halo of the HERA proton beam. HERA-B operated at the proton-electron accelerator (HERA) at DESY until March 2003. HERA-B was optimized to measure CP-violation in decays of B mesons into J/psi K0. In the year 2000, it became apparent that due to delays in the construction of HERA-B, coupled with the brilliantly successful turn-on of the B-factories and their associated detectors at SLAC and KEK, the original goal of the experiment was no longer interesting. The HERA-B collaboration decided to complete the detector and use it for a limited time for studies of heavy flavor production in proton-nucleus collisions. Two large data sets were accumulated during the 2002/2003 HERA running period and are currently under analysis. RELATED
