Deadline on Aug 1, 2020
Job description:
The experimental high energy physics group at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) invites applications from outstanding candidates for the position of postdoctoral researcher to work on the CMS experiment and machine learning with real-time applications.
Our group is involved in the upgrade of the Level-1 FPGA-based trigger system with a focus on particle-flow reconstruction and the development of novel, fast machine learning algorithms. We also perform measurements of high-transverse-momentum (boosted) Higgs bosons and searches for exotic new physics. The successful candidate is expected to lead efforts in these areas.
Ambitious applicants from diverse backgrounds and with interests in outreach are encouraged to apply.
A PhD in particle physics is required. Prior experience in FPGA firmware development or machine learning is advantageous, but not essential.
Applicants should send their curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, an optional statement on diversity/outreach, and arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent to:
Assistant Professor Javier Duarte
Department of Physics, 0319
University of California San Diego
9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093-0319
The deadline for the receipt of the application is August 1, 2020, but the search will continue until the position is filled.
UCSD is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer with a strong institutional commitment to excellence through diversity.
