The Department of Physics at the University of Washington invites applications for a post-doctoral position. The successful candidate will work on the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and on the IRIS-HEP project with Professor Gordon Watts.

The University of Washington Experimental Particle Physics group (EPE) consists of four professors, four post-docs, and four graduate students working on the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Our physics interests are focused on electroweak symmetry breaking and the search for exotic decays of the Higgs, especially with searches for Long Lived Particles. We are also a founding member of the IRIS-HEP project (Institute for Research and Innovation in Software for the HL-LHC, http://iris-hep.org). Our group’s IRIS-HEP work is in developing analysis systems: enabling the expansion of HEP into the python-based analysis ecosystem, low latency analysis of large datasets, and as a longer-term goal differentiable analysis. We are also founding members of the MATHUSLA experiment, a search for ultra-long-lived particles. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to all aspects of the program.

The successful applicant should have a Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, by the time they start at the University of Washington and be interested in contributing to both the software and long-lived particle search physics program.
