Job description:
The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), Chinese Academy of Sciences, invites applications for one Postdoctoral Research Associate position to work on the development of high-granularity calorimeters.

The IHEP team is extensively involved with on the development of finely segmented calorimeters for the proposed Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) as well as the CMS endcap calorimeter Phase-2 upgrade project (HGCAL) at the High-Luminosity LHC. A new silicon detector lab has been developed on IHEP campus and will be served as one of the HGCAL Module Assembly Centers worldwide. The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in hardware-oriented activities, such as detailed characterizations of semiconductor sensors (e.g. silicon photomulpliers and large-area silicon diodes) and readout electronics, module assembly and beam tests, and/or software-oriented efforts, including the calorimeter simulation, design optimizations and performance studies with particle-flow algorithms, depending on the candidate’s expertise.

Ph.D. in particle physics or a closely related discipline is required by the time of the appointment. Prior experiences in detector hardware or software, electronics or data acquisition systems are highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member to accomplish goals is required. Knowledge of ROOT, C++/python and good programming skills in general are considered an asset.

The position will be based at IHEP Beijing. Travels to CERN as well as other collaborating institutions and working at beam test facilities are expected. Good oral and written communication skills are required. The working language is English; the knowledge of Chinese language is not mandatory.

The appointment of the position is initially for two years, with the possibility of an extension. Competitive international level salary will be offered. The outstanding candidate will be encouraged to apply for the “Chung-Yao Chao Postdoctoral Fellowship” by the CAS Center for Excellence in Particle Physics and other fellowships for additional benefits.

The position is immediately open and qualified candidates are requested to submit a Curriculum Vita, a list of selected publications, as well as a brief statement of research interests and arrange to have at least three reference letters sent to Dr. Yong Liu (yong.l@cern.ch) and Dr. Huaqiao Zhang (Huaqiao.Zhang@cern.ch) with a subject title IHEP-HGC Postdoc Search 2020. Any questions or inquiries concerning the position can be directly sent to the above email addresses.

The review of applications will start once complete materials are received. For full consideration, all materials should be received by November 30, 2020. The position will remain open until filled.
