The Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science and the PRISMA+ Cluster of Excellence invite applications for an appointment at the level of

University Professor
in Early Universe Cosmology (Bes. Gr. W 2 BbesG)

starting in January 2021.
The Cluster of Excellence PRISMA+ (“Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter”) focuses on the key questions concerning the nature of the fundamental building blocks of matter and their significance for the physics of the universe.

The successful candidate should be a proven expert in astrophysical or formal aspects of cosmology, such as structure formation, inflation, gravitational waves and axions. He or she should actively participate in the activities of the Cluster of Excellence PRISMA+ and build a bridge between the existing expertise in particle physics towards astrophysical or formal aspects of cosmology. Participation in national and international collaborations is highly desirable.

The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in teaching activities in Theoretical Physics. Applicants should have initial teaching experience and be prepared to further develop their pedagogical commitment and didactic skills. Master courses may also be taught in English. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz promote a concept of intensive tutoring and expect a high rate of presence at the university.

The prerequisites for application are a university degree, doctorate and proven outstanding and internationally visible scientific achievements in the respective field of research (§ 49 Hochschulgesetz Rheinland-Pfalz). Teaching and management experience as well as the successful acquisition of third-party funds are desirable.
