Job description:
The Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet (LLR) at École Polytechnique and IRFU/DPhP at CEA-Saclay are opening a post-doctoral position for the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Both LLR and IRFU/PPhP groups are founding members of the CMS Collaboration. LLR group has designed, built, and is responsible for the operation of the Level-1 trigger primitives for the electromagnetic calorimeter. It has a major involvement in particle reconstruction and identification with the e/gamma and tau Physics Object Groups and contributed to the development of the Particle Flow event reconstruction. IRFU/DPhP group has designed, built, and is responsible for the operation of the ECAL laser monitoring system of the crystal transparency, the selective readout processor as well as the ECAL calibration.
The groups are among the key actors for the discovery of a Higgs boson and the measurement of its properties within the CMS Collaboration and among the leading groups in diboson and VBS physics. The groups are also strongly involved in the developments for the LHC Phase-2 CMS upgrades with major responsibilities in the mechanics, electronics, trigger, and software algorithms of the future endcap calorimeters.
We are seeking an outstanding and strongly motivated physicist, who has recently completed or is about to acquire a Ph.D. degree in experimental particle physics. The successful post-doctoral candidate is expected to take a leading role in CMS ECAL trigger for Run 3 and in the HGCAL trigger for LHC Phase 2. (S)he will be also part of our effort to explore Higgs boson physics at LHC, possibly on the double Higgs boson production studies. Applications should include: • a Curriculum Vitæ et Studiorum; • a skimmed and annotated list of publications to which the candidate made major contributions; • a short statement of motivation and research interests.
The candidate should also arrange at least two reference letters to be sent to the same email address (cms-llr-p2io-postdoc@llr.in2p3.fr)
The position is initially limited to two years based on secured P2IO funding, the possibility of an extension is depending on additional funding requests. Preference will be given to candidates with less than 2 years of postdoctoral experience. Review of the applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled. To receive full consideration, applications should be sent before November 9th, 2020.
Questions regarding this application should be sent to Dr. Amina Zghiche (zghiche@cern.ch) and Dr. Marc Besancon (marc.besancon@cea.fr)
