Job description:
For our location in Hamburg we are seeking:
PhD student – Belle II
DESY, with its 2700 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world's leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. The particle physics program of DESY includes strong contributions to the Belle II experiment at KEK in Japan that started its physics run in early 2019. The experimental program is enhanced by collaboration with a strong local theory group. The DESY Belle II group is involved in data analyses focusing on B- and tau-physics as well as Dark Matter searches. In addition, the group is involved in the commissioning of the Belle II pixel vertex detector, and software development for the tracking detectors and the electromagnetic calorimeter.
The position
- Analysis of Belle II data with focus on B decays, in particular measurement of the CKM matrix element Vub
- Contributions to the commissioning and operation of the new Belle II Pixel detector
Requirements
- Diploma/Masters in Physics with excellent grades
- lnterest in particle physics experiments
- Good teamwork and communications skills
- Good English language skills
- Ability and eligibility to travel to Japan
The position is limited to 3 years.
Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organisations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties.
