Job description:
The Center for Particle Physics in Siegen (CPPS) has an opening for a

Doctoral student in experimental particle physics (ATLAS)

The ATLAS group in Siegen has responsibilities in the upgrade and the operation of the current pixel detector and has in-depth expertise in top-quark and flavour physics, as well as flavour tagging. Collaboration with the local theory particle group is being strengthened.

The successful candidate is expected to carry out data analysis with the full Run-2 ATLAS data, studying associated top-quark pair-production in association with heavy neutral bosons (tt̄Z, tt̄H) or rare top-quark decays in final states with several leptons, thus probing new physics in so far unexplored regions. Skills in applying machine learning techniques will be acquired and/or improved.

Excellent applicants are encouraged to apply. They should hold (or about to complete) a master's degree in high-energy physics or a closely related field and should have relevant experience with data analysis and object-oriented programming. The position is located at Siegen, a cozy, international University town, with the possibility of frequent travels to CERN and/or a stay of several months. Due to the current Covid-19 situation, a remote start can be arranged. An attractive salary is offered.

The position is available for an appointment of initially three years. The University of Siegen is an equal opportunity employer, women are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications including a curriculum vitae, copies of certificates, and two letters of recommendation should be sent to Prof. Dr. Markus Cristinziani (Markus.Cristinziani@uni-siegen.de). Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position has been filled.
