The Department of Physics at the Southern Methodist University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position to work on the ATLAS experiment at the LHC.

 

The SMU ATLAS group currently consists of faculty members: Alison Deiana, Stephen Sekula, Ryszard Stroynowski and Jingbo Ye, Research Professor Katharine Leney, 3 post-doctoral fellows, 3 engineers and 5 graduate students. The group contributes to operations and upgrade projects in the areas of Liquid Argon Calorimeter, b-jet trigger, and machine learning R&D.

 

On the physics analysis front, we study several aspects of the Higgs physics including major efforts in di-Higgs and associated ttH production and precision measurements of Higgs properties. For the LHC Run 3 we plan to continue study of the Higgs self-coupling and we plan to explore effects of physics beyond the Standard Model.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the group’s current and future physics analysis efforts and contribute to the LHC Run 3 and detector upgrade.

The position can be based at CERN or at SMU in Dallas with travel to CERN as needed.

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in particle physics by the time of the appointment.
