Job description:
The International Center for Elementary Particle Physics (ICEPP) at the University of Tokyo has a few openings for Project Researcher positions (Non-permanent, Postdoctoral Research Associate positions) to work on quantum computing and the applications to particle physics. 

The ICEPP, UTokyo participates in the research and development of quantum computing technologies, as well as education of quantum information science for future generations. In particular, the ICEPP contributes to the UTokyo’s Quantum Innovation Initiatives, aiming to build up a Quantum Computing Eco-system to bring innovations to science and technology. 

Job descriptions:
  • Research and development of quantum computing and its applications in collaborations with the IBM Quantum and other industrial companies.
  • Research of quantum computing applications to particle physics.

The research activities include the development of machine learning techniques on a noisy-intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) computer and associated software for potential near- and long-term applications to particle physics and/or industry.

Details of the position:
  • Starting as soon as the position is filled and ending on March 31, 2022.
  • Employment may be renewed annually (up to maximum 5 years). Renewal of the employment will be determined by taking into account budget status, assigned work progress, achievement at the end of work period, as well as attitudes in research activities. 
  • Work location: ICEPP, 7-3-1 Hongo Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan.

Qualifications required:
  • Persons with Ph. D or equivalent degree are considered to be eligible. Those who are expected to obtain Ph. D by the time of appointment are also considered.
