For our location in Hamburg we are seeking:

Ph.D. students for the ATLAS Group

Limited: 3 years | Starting date: earliest possible | ID: FHDO016/2021 | Deadline: open | Part-time

research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In

The particle physics programme of DESY includes strong contributions to the LHC experiments at CERN and the preparation of future
experiments. The experimental programme is enhanced by collaboration with a strong theory group. The DESY ATLAS group is involved in data
analyses focusing on W and Z production, Higgs, top quark and Beyond Standard Model physics. In addition, the group is involved in the
operation of the ATLAS Silicon Strip detector and the development of the ATLAS ITk Strips Detector for the High Luminosity LHC. The group is
also working on the development of silicon tracking detectors for future particle physics experiments.

About the role:
  • Analysis of ATLAS data (full Run 2 dataset and the new Run 3 data)
  • Contributions to operation and/or upgrade of the ATLAS detector

About you:
  • Diploma/Master in Physics with excellent grades
  • Deep interest in particle physics experiments
  • Some programming and scripting experience is welcome
  • Teamwork, communication and presentation skills
  • Good English language skills

DESY in Hamburg does not grant doctoral degrees directly but
collaborates with several universities. Candidates for thesis research
will have to satisfy the universities terms of admission for doctoral
theses.

PhD students receive a monthly salary of 2/3 of the payment of the
remuneration group 13, level 2 according to the regulations of the
TV-AVH.
