Job description:
The Institute of Physics at the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) invites applications for a postdoctoral position with the LHCb/CODEX-b experiments at CERN.

ELTE is the leading national university for subatomic physics in Hungary. The campus is located along the picturesque Buda side of the Danube river in central Budapest. The main research focus of the department is particle and nuclear physics, astro-particle physics and astrophysics. The institute has active groups in several large international collaborations, including CMS, CODEX-b, DUNE, LIGO, LHCb, LSST, NA61/SHINE, NUSTAR, Pan-STARRS, PHENIX, STAR and T2K.

The LHCb/CODEX-b group has broad interests in the flavor and dark sectors. At LHCb, the group is involved in physics analyses of rare b-decays, spectroscopy and R&D towards the LHCb Upgrade II Electromagnetic Calorimeter (U2 ECal). CODEX-b is a proposed detector to be installed inside the LHCb cavern that will look for long-lived dark sector particles produced via collisions at the LHCb interaction point, and aims at data-taking in the High-Luminosity LHC era. A pilot detector, CODEX-beta, is currently being constructed that will take data in the upcoming Run 3.

For this position, we seek candidates with proficiency in detector R&D, construction and commissioning for our LHCb U2 ECal and CODEX-b efforts. Experience in performing simulation studies for detector R&D will be seen positively. We are interested in fast timing options for the U2 ECal and expanding the physics case of the full CODEX-b detector with potential calorimeter options to detect axion-like particles. Travel to CERN is anticipated when possible and as required.

Applicants must have a PhD degree (or a recently submitted PhD thesis) and an excellent record in experimental particle or nuclear physics. For interested candidates, teaching opportunities include coursework lectures and guiding students.

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply via e-mail to: biplab.dey@ttk.elte.hu. To apply, please submit:
-- a curriculum vitae including conference presentations and publications,
-- a short description of research accomplishments and interests,
and arrange for three letters of reference sent directly.

Questions about the position can be directed to Dr. Biplab Dey (biplab.dey@ttk.elte.hu).

Women and members of minority groups underrepresented in the academic sector are especially encouraged to apply.
Letters of Reference should be sent to:
