Job description:
The High Energy Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applicants for a postdoctoral fellow position to work on design and simulation of advanced detectors for future high-energy physics (HEP) and nuclear physics (NP) experiments. The fellow will be a key contributor in a multidisciplinary co-design team that involves materials, computing, and device applications with the goal of tackling upcoming HEP and NP detector challenges. The fellow will collaborate closely with leading scientists from different divisions at Argonne National Laboratory.
The fellow will work on capturing the requirements and studying the specifications of future HEP/NP detectors, performing concept design and system optimization with new computing architectures and device technologies (with a focus on neural networks), developing simulation and modeling for performance and characterization, and providing feedback for intelligent compute processing and device designing to the team.
Required / Desirable skills
Required skills include experience with HEP/NP detector design and simulation, performance analysis and software development. Experience with GEANT 4 simulation and detector characterization is highly desirable. Familiarity with HEP/NP data processing, analysis, and the use of AI/ML methods is also important.
Position Requirements
Candidates should have a PhD in High Energy Physics or Nuclear Physics, or a closely related discipline.
The candidates must have received their Ph.D. within three years of the start of the appointment.
Applicants should send curriculum vitae, a description of research interests through the application system: https://argonne.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/Argonne_Careers with Requisition Number 412077 and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to hep_letters@anl.gov.
For further information, contact Dr. Jinlong Zhang at zhangjl@anl.gov .
Review of applications will begin once the application is completed and will continue until the position is filled. For full consideration please submit all materials by March 31, 2022.
