DESY, with more than 2700 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world's leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In this way, DESY contributes to solving the major questions and urgent challenges facing science, society and industry. With its ultramodern research infrastructure, its interdisciplinary research platforms and its international networks, DESY offers a highly attractive working environment in the fields of science, technology and administration as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists.
The particle physics programme of DESY consists of strong contributions to the LHC experiments ATLAS and CMS, the Belle-II Experiment in Japan and to the preparation of future experiments. The experimental programme is enhanced by collaboration with a strong theory group. DESY is seeking an outstanding researcher to fill a postdoctoral position working on the CMS experiment. The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in the data analysis and software developments especially at the start of the LHC Run 3. Study of rare processes as well as precision measurements, particularly in top quark physics, are envisaged. Interpretations in the context of effective field theory are also considered.
About your role:
- Active role in the CMS experiment
- Engagement in top quark physics and precision measurements
- Participation in supervising students
About you:
- Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics
- Experience in LHC physics data analysis
- Strong motivation to participate in innovative projects
- Excellent teamwork abilities, good communication skills and knowledge of English
