Job description:
The University of Adelaide High Energy Physics group has an available position for a postdoctoral research associate to work on the ATLAS experiment for a period of 2 years commencing in 2022.
The position will focus on data analysis in relation to searching for beyond Standard Model physics and is supported by funding from a Discovery Project granted by the Australian Research Council titled ‘New Techniques for New Physics Searches at the CERN Large Hadron Collider’. This project aims to break new ground in the quest to discover the existence of new fundamental constituents of nature. In order to achieve this, the team will invent and deploy a suite of advanced machine learning and anomaly detection techniques, developed by the chief investigators, to mine the data processed and collected with the ATLAS experiment at CERN. The research associate will be supported from the ‘Centre for the Subatomic Structure of Matter (CSSM)’. There will be opportunities to travel to CERN, to conferences, and to spend extended time at the University of Manchester under the supervision of our Partner Investigator, Professor Caterina Doglioni.
The University of Adelaide ATLAS group is comprised of 2 faculty members, 1 postdoc and 11 graduate students.
The school of physical sciences at the University of Adelaide hosts strong groups in high energy physics working not only on ATLAS but also on the Belle II, CTA, HESS, IceCube, LIGO, Pierre Auger and SABRE experiments. Close collaboration between theorists and experimentalists is actively encouraged within our group.
