Job description:
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for one appointment to conduct research in experimental physics.
The appointed individuals will work on the following projects (~half time on each):
-Analysis of polarized proton data taken by the STAR experiment at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. (PI Barish)
-R&D for forward calorimetry system for the EIC project detector in collaboration with the California EIC consortium.
The UCR STAR spin group is working on Run 15 and 17 analysis involving the FMS and EEMC system, and is heavily involved in the forward upgrade. The candidate(s) will work on the analysis of forward upgrade data (Run 21 and beyond) and help supervise the students in the group on Run 15 and 17 data. The candidate would work half the time on R&D EIC simulation and hardware projects.
The candidate(s) working on STAR will be supervised by Ken Barish, and those working on the EIC projects will be co-supervised by Miguel Arratia and Ken Barish. The UCR medium energy group also works closely with UCR's heavy-ion group, which is led by Rich Seto.
The candidates are expected to be in residence at BNL with visits to California, depending on the exact work plan.
Applicants should submit a resume highlighting personal research achievements, a list of publications where your contributions were significant, and a statement of research interests to Kenneth.Barish@ucr.edu and miguel.arratia@ucr.edu. In addition, the applicant should arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent to the emails above. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
