Job description:
The INFN Firenze CMS Group is looking for researchers or engineers interested in Technological Fellowship (Assegno di Ricerca) to work on “Development and validation of the Power System for the new Tracker detector of the CMS experiment".
Our research group, currently ~20 members, is heavily involved in the 3D pixel sensor R&D, pixel detector modules development and has full responsibility for the powering system of the Upgraded Tracker. Due to the unprecedented challenges of this new detector, the powering system implements cutting-edge technology like serial powering for the innermost part and point-of-load DC-DC conversion in the outer part. The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in the R&D of custom power supplies able to operate in radiation and magnetic fields, including the realisation of test setups, studies with partially integrated detector structures, functional tests at radiation facilities. The scale and complexity of the new system are such that integration with the detector control and data acquisition demands specific development. Machine-Learning based predictive-maintenance could also be considered in the future.
The fellowship is based in Firenze but will require travelling to CERN (Geneva, CH) and, possibly, extended residency periods at CERN. The initial contract will be for one year, with renewal to a second year provided adequate performance. Further extensions with different contract typology can also be considered.
The net salary is approximately 22000€/year. An additional economic incentive (~5000€/year up to 3 years) may be granted in case of mobility from outside Firenze region (please refer to 24224.pdf for further details).
Qualifications
The fellowship is intended for physicists holding a PhD or for engineers with proven experience. Candidates should be comfortable with lab activities, system test implementation, software skills for data analysis and acquisition automation. Knowledge of analog electronics is considered as a plus.
Teamwork capabilities are needed to fruitfully engage with colleagues and collaborators. The candidates are expected to play a leading role in managing a complex project and actively steer activities, procurement and tests. Please refer to the opening call for further details (24224.pdf, bilingual Italian/English).
Instructions
Interested candidates should apply according to the procedure detailed in the position opening 24224.pdf. The deadline is 14/5/2022.
