Deadline on Sep 30, 2022
Job description:
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research contractor based at CERN with the University of Toronto Experimental High Energy Physics group. The opportunities and responsibilities of this position would be similar to those of a postdoc or research associate in our group, but the successful applicant will not be expected to work on campus in Toronto, and instead be resident at CERN full time.
Our group has an active research program as members of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The group plays a leading role in the analysis of ATLAS physics data, particularly in the areas of top-quark physics, Higgs physics and searches for exotic new particles. We are active in the maintenance and operations of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter. We are also a major participant in the HL-LHC upgrade of the central tracker to a tracking system, the ITk, consisting completely of solid-state sensors. We are an ITk strip module assembly site. Finally, we take an active role in Data Acquisition system, in both the operation of the current system, and the upgraded FELIX system for HL-LHC.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in particle physics including one or more of the following areas: data analysis, experiment maintenance and operations, detector development and construction. They must have completed their Ph.D. in particle physics or related field. The position is available from September 2022.
Candidates should supply a resume, a description of research interests and three letters of reference, to Ms. Crystal Liao, Department of Physics, University of Toronto, 60 St. George St., Toronto, Ontario, M5S 1A7, Canada. Applications may be submitted by email to cliao@physics.utoronto.ca. For information about the position send email to Nikolina.Ilic@cern.ch. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
