Job description:
We are seeking excellent candidates for a joint 3-year postdoctoral position, including two years at RWTH Aachen in the group of Prof. Julien Lesgourgues and one year at KIT Karlsruhe in the new group of Prof. Felix Kahlhöfer. The candidate will spend the majority of their time working on the cosmological interpretation of Lyman-alpha data, and particularly of forthcoming year-1 data from DESI.
The funding is provided through a joint grant from the French and German research agencies (ANR and DFG, respectively), named “DESI-Lya”. The project involves frequent interactions with our collaborators in Saclay (E. Armengaud, N. Palanque-Delabrouille, C. Yèche…) who are working on the measurement of the 1D and 3D Lyman-alpha flux power spectrum in DESI. The candidate will set up hydrodynamical simulations, emulators, likelihoods and parameter inference pipelines to constrain the neutrino mass and some properties of non-minimal dark matter models (warm DM, self-interacting DM…) Previous experience on N-body simulations and/or hydrodynamical simulations and/or cosmological parameter extraction, as well as a strong interest in the connections between particle physics and cosmology, would be valuable assets. We aim to increase the diversity at our institutes and therefore particularly encourage women and underrepresented minorities to apply. In case of suitable qualification, preference will be given to applicants with disabilities.
The project is expected to start on the 1st of September 2023, but candidates available on a shorter time scale will also be considered on an individual basis. The position will be paid at the salary level E13 TVL, which is the standard postdoctoral salary level in Germany. Applicants should provide a curriculum vitae, a list of publications and a brief description of their research interests (in a single pdf file). Applications should be send to the email address:
until December 16, 2022. In the subject field, please include at least the word 'cosmology 2022' and your family name (e.g.: 'application cosmology 2022 Lemaitre'). In addition, the applicant should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same address.
