Job description:
The High Energy Physics group at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is seeking to hire a postdoctoral research associate to join its research program on the CMS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The CMS part of the UNL HEP group presently consists of four faculty members, four postdocs, and six graduate students. Current responsibilities include hosting a Tier-2 computing center, contributing to many activities of the Electron and Photon Physics Object Group (EGM POG), and playing a leading role in the R&D, prototyping, and construction of silicon pixel detector modules for two next generation CMS detectors: the Inner Tracker and the MIP Timing Layer. The group pursues physics measurements on Higgs, electroweak, and top-quark topics, as well as beyond-the-standard-model topics. The UNL HEP group overall also includes one theorist-phenomenologist and a theory postdoc who pursue LHC-related topics. Additionally, the HEP group participates in the Radio Neutrino Observatory in Greenland, and IceCube Generation-2 as well as the Askaryan Radio Array experiments at the South Pole, and an experiment that searchers for milli-charged particles millQan.
The successful applicant is expected to lead the group’s effort in several projects in CMS physics measurements, upgrade, or operations. A strong contribution to one of the areas of responsibilities of the UNL HEP group (most likely EGM POG or Tracker) is anticipated, but other contributions to CMS can be discussed. The research associate hired for this position is foreseen to be resident at CERN, although residency at Fermilab’s LHC Physics Center (LPC) or on-campus in Lincoln can also be considered.
To qualify, the candidates must have received a Ph.D. in experimental high energy physics, candidates with Ph.D.’s granted within the last five years are given priority. Applications must include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, publication list, a statement of research interests, and at least three letters of reference. Application materials should be sent to Jennifer Light (jlight3@unl.edu). Applications received by Dec 1, 2022, will receive full consideration, but the review of applications will begin immediately and continue until suitable candidates are found.
The University of Nebraska is committed to a pluralistic campus community through affirmative action, equal opportunity, work-life balance, on-campus daycare, and attention to dual careers.
