Job description:
The Elementary Particle Physics Group at the University of Warwick seeks to appoint outstanding researchers to join its effort on the LHCb experiment. The Warwick group is actively involved in the LHCb physics programme, and has responsibilities in Monte Carlo event generation and simulation, and in data processing. The group supports the maintenance, operation and upgrades of the VELO silicon vertex subdetectors, and carries out research and development on the TORCH particle identification device with a view to its use in a future LHCb upgrade. The group has diverse interests in the exploitation of LHCb data, searching for physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. Particular interests include studies of rare B hadron decays and of CP-violation effects, including in charmless B meson decays within the ERC-funded KstarKstar project led by Dr. Matt Kenzie.
You will contribute to several aspects of the Group's activities on the LHCb project. You should have, or should be about to obtain, a PhD in experimental particle physics or another relevant subject. You will have a good grounding in and general knowledge of particle physics. Experience of hardware, instrumentation and modern data analysis techniques for particle physics experiments would be welcomed, as would good working knowledge of C++ and Python. You will be an excellent communicator, with good collaborative working skills. You will possess excellent planning and time management skills to ensure your research goals are achieved effectively.
Two posts are available, both for an initial fixed term of two years, with the possibility of extension thereafter. The posts are foreseen to be based in Warwick with travel as necessary, and with the possibility of long-term attachment at CERN where appropriate. We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis.
Interested candidates are encouraged to direct informal inquiries to Prof. Tim Gershon (t.j.gershon@warwick.ac.uk) and Dr. Matt Kenzie (Matt.Kenzie@warwick.ac.uk).
