Deadline on Mar 6, 2023
Job description:
Length of contract: 2 years
Starting date: as early as May 1st, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter
Work quota: Full time (100%)
Level of education: PhD in particle physics
Experience required: Less than 2 years after graduation
Description:
The ATLAS group at the LPNHE in Paris invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in experimental HEP to be associated with the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider.
The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in physics analyses using data of the ATLAS experiment with a focus on di-Higgs production modes and jet substructure and tagging.
Activities:
The successful candidate will work as part of the DIVE (DiHiggs in VBF Events) project. DIVE targets the study of VBF diHiggs in the high branching fraction decay channels bbbb and bbtautau, aiming at constraining separately the longitudinal and transversal scattering components. This property has never been studied at the LHC and will unlock the full physics potential of this production mode. The successful candidate will focus on the bbbb channel. The development of dedicated methods to identify decays of highly boosted Higgs boson to bb and its validation and calibration with ATLAS data will be investigated to maximize the sensitivity of the physics analyses. It is expected that advanced data analysis and data processing tools are explored in this work. This position includes supervision of PhD and Master students, as well as opportunities for outreach work.
Required skills:
Interested candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in particle physics when starting the position. Use of methods of data analysis in high energy physics, good understanding of standard concepts in particle physics, use of C++ and python programming languages, teamwork and organizational skills, excellent communication through written documents and talks.
Context of the work:
This offer is part of the DIVE (DiHiggs in VBF Events) project, led by a team of experimentalists involved in the ATLAS experiment (from IJCLab Paris, LPNHE Paris and CPPM Marseille), supported by the ANR (French funding agency for research).
The successful candidate is expected to be based primarily in Paris working at the LPNHE, with the possibility of frequent trips to CERN. LPNHE is a mixed research unit with 160 employees, performing mainly experimental research in particle physics and Astroparticles. The position will involve travel to national and international conferences.
Application procedure:
Applicants should apply at : https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR7585-YOLBON-001/Default.aspx?lang=EN
It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the following documents are provided before the end of the validity of this call:
- Your contact coordinates
- The coordinates of 2-3 referees for your work (email address). Important: Your referees should send their recommendation letters before March 6th 2023, by email (camacho@lpnhe.in2p3.fr) with the title “ANR DIVE Post-doc position at LPNHE – name of the candidate”
- CV including diplomas, work experience, spoken languages, publication list
- Motivation letter
- A copy of your PhD diploma or equivalent
- List of publications (3 maximum) to which you contributed significantly, showing the relevance of your profile for this project.
Informal enquiries are very welcome and can be sent to the same contact persons.
