Job description:
The Theoretical Gravitation and Cosmology group at the University of Trento expects to support up to one application for a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Caritro Foundation. Caritro Fellowships are meant to offer opportunities for professional growth to young researchers who have not turned 35 years old at the start date of the project, through support for research projects with a maximum duration of 24 months to be started in 2023, whose results are expected to benefit (broadly intended) the Province of Trento. Please see this link (only in Italian) for further details.

Each Department at the University of Trento can support at most 3 applications. The Theoretical Gravitation and Cosmology Group led by Massimiliano Rinaldi and Sunny Vagnozzi expects to support at most 1 application, to be determined through this expression of interest. We are looking for a young researcher below the age of 35, already in possession of a PhD, and with an excellent research track in cosmology and gravitation broadly intended. The candidate we ideally expect to support would have a broad profile at the interface of theory and data, and experience in tests of fundamental physics from cosmological and astrophysical data.

If you meet these requirements and are interested, please submit a CV and list of publications either through AcademicJobsOnline at at the eDelivery link https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/edelivery/5197 (preferred). Alternatively, these can be sent via email directly to Sunny Vagnozzi (sunny.vagnozzi@unitn.it) and Max Rinaldi (massimiliano.rinaldi@unitn.it). If you choose this second option, for filing purposes please use the subject line "Caritro 2023 expression of interest [NAME SURNAME]". Optionally, reference letters (up to 5) may also be sent through the same AcademicJobsOnline link as above. While optional, a cover letter summarizing why you are interested in coming to Trento specifically, as well as a potential project you may propose if selected, may be particularly helpful.

In the first internal selection stage, we expect to collect expressions of interest up to March 24, and will make a decision on who to support at the group level immediately afterwards. The selected candidate will then be invited by us to write a very short abstract for the fellowship application by March 30. The second internal selection stage will be at the Department of Physics level, who by mid April will choose up to 3 applications to support. The selected candidates will then be invited to submit their application for the Caritro Fellowship by May 25, with support from the International Research Office. In the final selection stage, the applications will then be assessed by external referees.

We expect the candidate selected by us, if also selected in the second (Department-level) stage, to commit to submitting their application for the final selection stage. Therefore, we are only looking for people seriously interested in coming to Trento - so, genuine expressions of interest only/no time wasters! We look forward to receiving your material by March 24, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
