Job description:
The PRISMA+ Cluster of Excellence at the Institute for Physics of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Germany) has an opening for a
Postdoctoral Research Associate (Physicist)
(TV-L EG 13)
in the ATLAS group to be filled immediately.
The PRISMA+ Cluster of Excellence − Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter − is focussed on the key questions concerning the fundamental constituents of matter and their implications for the physics of the Universe. Within PRISMA, the Mainz ATLAS group shares major responsibility in several sub-detector systems and is heavily involved in the research, development and construction of the High Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD) for the High Luminosity upgrade of the LHC. Physics analysis activities include measurements of Higgs boson and top quark properties, as well as a broad range of searches for new physics.
The successful applicant is expected to play a leading role in the analysis of ATLAS data to measure properties of the Higgs boson and of the top quark and to participate in the development and simulation of the HGTD.
Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. (or an equivalent degree) in physics and should have in-depth research experience in high energy experimental particle physics. A strong background in data analysis, detector hardware or detector simulation is desirable.
The Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz aims at increasing the percentage of women in academic positions and strongly encourages female scientists to apply.
The University is an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes applications from persons with disabilities.
The appointment will be initially for a period of two years, with the possibility of an extension. Qualified candidates are requested to submit their application, including a curriculum vitae, a brief description of their research experience and interests, and a list of the most relevant publications to Prof. Lucia Masetti, Institut für Physik, 55099 Mainz, Germany (preferably via email to masetti@uni-mainz.de) and to arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the same address.
Applications will be considered as they arrive and will be accepted until September 8, 2023.
