Job description:
The KIT Department of Physics, as part of Division V - Physics and Mathematics, invites applications for a Junior Professorship (W1, fixed term) in Theoretical Particle Physics.
The position is embedded in the research and teaching activities of the Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP) and the Department of Physics. The junior professor will work in the field of collider physics, precision calculations, computer algebra, or modern methods for the calculation of scattering amplitudes. The successful applicant is expected to participate in the Collaborative Research Center “Particle Physics Phenomenology after the Higgs Discovery (P3H)”. They are expected to contribute to teaching in the field of theoretical physics (BSc/MSc) and to supervise students and doctoral researchers.
KIT provides an excellent environment for research in experimental and theoretical particle physics. The Institute for Theoretical Physics is part of the KIT Center for Elementary Particle and Astroparticle Physics KCETA. KIT hosts the graduate school for particle and astroparticle physics KSETA which provides training for graduate students. The Collaborative Research Center P3H offers opportunities for close collaboration with the Universities RWTH Aachen, Heidelberg and Siegen.
The contract duration is limited to six years. During the third year an evaluation takes place. The evaluation criteria follow the "Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-Track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)".
Personal qualification:
You have a completed PhD in physics, have an outstanding, internationally visible scientific record in the field of particle physics phenomenology with a focus on computational particle physics, and an aptitude for pedagogy. You combine a collaborative working style with strong communication skills.
Please note the prerequisites for employment according to § 14 (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with § 51 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges).
Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, description of previous teaching activities and acquired third-party funding (if applicable), research plan, and list of publications) should be sent in electronic form as one PDF document to:
dekanat@physik.kit.edu, quoting vacancy number: 2229/2023.
The deadline for applications is October 15, 2023.
One of the strategic goals of KIT is to strengthen diversity and to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching. Therefore, women and members of underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
As a family-friendly university, KIT offers part-time employment, leaves of absence, a dual-career service and coaching to support the work-life balance.
Recognized severely disabled persons will be preferred if they are equally qualified.
