Job description:
The experimental high-energy physics group at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position on the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The analysis activities of the group are currently focused on studies of the Higgs/electroweak sector and top quark, as well as searches for BSM physics. The group has extensive experience in silicon strip and pixel detector technology, and currently participates in the Phase II upgrade of the ATLAS pixel detector. In addition, the university hosts an ATLAS tier-2 computing center.
The successful applicant is expected to devote ~2/3 FTE to physics analysis and ~1/3 FTE to detector operations, object reconstruction, and/or the Phase II pixel detector upgrade. Within these areas, the successful applicant will, in coordination with the faculty PIs (Abbott, Gutierrez, Strauss, Stupak), have flexibility to define the scope of work. The successful applicant will be supervised by the PI whose physics interests align most closely with the proposed work. The position may be based at CERN, Oklahoma, or a national lab, depending on the location of the proposed activities. The initial appointment will be for 3 years (contingent on satisfactory performance and continued availability of funds), renewable for a total of 5 years. The candidate is expected to work closely with our graduate students and other personnel.
Qualified applicants in all areas of experimental high-energy physics are encouraged to apply, though preference will be given to those with experience on an LHC experiment. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in experimental high-energy physics at the time of appointment. Those with an interest in dark sectors, long-lived particles, or tracking are especially encouraged to apply. Applications, consisting of a cover letter (indicating the expected date of availability), CV (including a list of publications), and statement of research interests should be submitted electronically (as a single pdf) to john.stupak@ou.edu, with the subject “Postdoc position: ATLAS experiment.” Applicants should also arrange to have 3 letters of reference sent on their behalf directly to the same address. To receive full consideration, applications should be submitted by Sunday, Dec. 17th. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
The University of Oklahoma is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Protected veterans and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
