Job description:
We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate to join our expanding efforts in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. You will make substantial contributions to our physics programme using Higgs boson signatures and perform key development work in ATLAS simulation (for both current and upgraded ATLAS).

The position is initially 3 years, which may be extended upon successful performance and funding availability. The start date is flexible from February 2024 - Summer 2024. We aim to hold zoom interviews early February. For any informal enquiries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please apply online uploading a CV, covering letter and any other attachments (list of most important publications with your contributions etc). Please arrange for 2 letters of reference to be sent to physics-references@ed.ac.uk by the closing date. Please ask the referees to include "ATLAS PDRA - 9159" in the subject.

We will rank the candidates according to their Knowledge, Skills and Experience, listed in the full job description, accessible from the job link.

Note: we are advertising two other PDRA positions on a very similar timescale (https://inspirehep.net/jobs/2735645). If you wish to be considered for both please submit separate applications. Your letter writers may include both job id's to save some administrative work if you wish.

Our group has strategic leadership roles in both physics analysis and operations. We make precision measurements of Higgs boson physics and search for potential new particles and forces, including SUSY, dark matter, long-lived and new gauge particles. We have major roles in simulation and trigger. For ATLAS upgrade, we have significant roles in the Inner Tracker (ITk), including the layout, design, and physics performance, as well as pixel services and assembly, pixel module construction and testing. In addition, we have substantial contribution in software & computing for both simulation and trigger. The group is led by 6 academics and 3 senior researchers. In addition to 7 postdoctoral research associates, 12 PhD students, 2 engineers and 3 technicians.

The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce, and eliminating discrimination. The School strives to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace for all and we are looking to actively diversify our staff. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and in particular encourage applications from people of colour, women, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ people and other minority and under-represented groups. We aim to ensure that our culture and systems support flexible and family-friendly working, as evidenced by our Juno Champion and Athena SWAN Silver awards
