Job description:
We invite applications for two postdoctoral researcher positions at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) to conduct research on dark matter with astro-particles. The successful candidates will primarily participate in the GAPS Antarctic balloon program, and can also be involved in the PandaX experiment.
Position:
GAPS (General AntiParticle Spectrometer) is the first experiment which is specifically optimized for low-energy (≤0.25 GeV/n) cosmic antinuclei, in particular antideuterons as signatures of dark matter. GAPS plan a series of long-duration balloon flights from Antarctic and the first flight is scheduled for late-2024. The GAPS group at SJTU is formalized in the fall of 2023, leading the Si(Li) tracker at the heart of the experiment. The successful candidates are anticipated to take a leading role in central tracker calibration, Flight-1 data analysis, and tracker upgrade for future flights.
We offer an internationally competitive salary (comparable to same-level positions in USA) and stipends plus subsidized housing or living allowance in Shanghai. We will also provide support in national research funding applications. The position is immediately available, and the initial appointment is for 2 years with possible renewals based on mutual satisfaction.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran Employer.
Qualification:
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics, astrophysics, nuclear physics, or a closely related discipline. Experiences in simulation, data analysis and hardware are preferred. The official work language in the group is English, so non-Chinese-speaking candidates are equally highly encouraged to apply.
Start date:
The anticipated start date is September 2024, but earlier or later start-dates are possible.
Application:
Applicants should send a cover letter, CV with list of publication, a brief research statement (no more than 3 pages), and at least three letters of recommendation to below email address. Applications will be received by August 31, 2024, but the positions will remain open till filled.
