Job description:
The ATLAS team at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm have an opening for a PhD student in experimental particle physics, and are looking for curious and driven candidates with a strong interest in problem-solving and experimental methods in fundamental physics.
The main research interests of the group are measurements of the Higgs boson and searches for beyond-SM physics featuring new long-lived particles. We have made significant contributions to the design, construction and commissioning of the Liquid Argon calorimeter pre-sampler and are currently involved in the design and construction of a new detector called the High-Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD) which will be installed in ATLAS in time for HL-LHC operations starting in 2029.
The research activity for the PhD student will mainly be data analysis and physics interpretations of results from the ATLAS experiment. There is also a possibility to participate in the development of HGTD. Part of the research time will be spent at CERN.
