Job description:
The ATLAS group at CEA Paris-Saclay (Irfu/DPhP) is opening a two-year post-doc position to work on the ATLAS experiment, mainly on the ITk upgrade project.

The CEA group has been involved in the ATLAS experiment since its origins. Its expertise spans both detector and reconstruction aspects (including calorimeter trigger, muon reconstruction, muon alignment, electron and photon calibration, b-tagging, database management, data preparation, and luminosity) and physics analyses, with a strong expertise in electroweak, top quark, and Higgs boson physics. In addition, the group actively takes part in the phase 2 upgrades of the electromagnetic calorimeter trigger and of the central inner tracker (ITk).

In particular, the CEA group collaborates with two other institutes within the Paris area (LPNHE-Paris and IJCLab-Orsay) on the ITk pixel project. Together, they are responsible for assembling and testing 33% of the ITk pixel quadruplet modules for the outer barrel, which corresponds to about 2200 modules to be delivered to the collaboration by 2026.

The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will involve developing the tests of ITk pixel modules at CEA. This work encompasses module data analysis and process optimization to meet the target production rate. Additionally, he/she will interact with the technical team and oversee daily production activities. Part of the activities could also be linked to assembly of the modules. A portion of his/her time will also contribute to analyzing data collected during LHC Run3, aligning with the group’s ongoing activities related to top-Higgs physics.

Highly qualified and motivated applicants should have a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics by the time of appointment and ideally some experience in detector operation and/or instrumentation. Being able to communicate in French with the technical team is an asset although not mandatory. They should send, by June 30th 2024, a curriculum vitae that includes a description of the research experience, a list of publications, and a motivation letter. The applications should be sent via email to Frédéric Déliot (frederic.deliot@cern.ch ). They should also arrange to have at least two letters of recommendation sent to the same email address.
Letters of Reference should be sent to:
