The ATLAS group of the Department of Particle Physics (DPhP) of CEA-Saclay invites applications for

Two PhD positions in experimental particle physics (ATLAS)

We are seeking outstanding PhD candidates to contribute to our efforts in the measurement of the W-boson mass, the Z-boson mass and the weak mixing angle with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, and in the interpretation of the measurement results.

Applicants are required to hold an academic master degree in physics, with a strong background in particle physics. A taste for Standard Model phenomenology is expected. Experience in data analysis, programming (Python/C++) and statistical inference is desirable. In addition, an English language level of at least B2 is required. French language skills are not necessarily required.

The successful candidates will be based at CEA Saclay, near Orsay and Paris, for the duration of the thesis (three years). Regular research stays at CERN are foreseen. Funding for both positions is guaranteed.

The CEA group is actively involved in ATLAS since its origins, mainly in the design and construction of the liquid argon electromagnetic calorimeter and the muon spectrometer, with broad expertise in detector calibration and event reconstruction, Higgs and top-quark physics, and a world-leading track record in precision electroweak measurements.

Qualified candidates are requested to submit their application, including a curriculum vitae, a brief description of their research experience and interests and at least one letter of recommendation, to Maarten Boonekamp, Fabrice Balli and Emilien Chapon by end July, 2024. A written scientific master thesis summarizing an independently conducted research project would be valuable.

CEA aims at increasing the percentage of women in academic positions and strongly encourages women scientists to apply. CEA is an equal-opportunity employer and welcomes applications from persons with disabilities.
