Job description:
The Experimental High Energy Physics Group at Columbia University Nevis Labs invites applications for a postdoctoral research scientist to join our group working on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The candidate would be based at Nevis Labs in New York, with frequent travel and possible extended visits to CERN, or at CERN.

Columbia played a leading role in the development, production and installation of the readout electronics of the ATLAS liquid argon (LAr) calorimeter system, and is now heavily involved in the operation, monitoring and maintenance of this detector system. We are also playing a leading role in the development of the next-generation LAr electronic readout for the High-Luminosity LHC upgrade of the ATLAS detector.

The successful candidate will be expected to make significant contributions to both physics analysis and our LAr contributions, with New York-based opportunities including the ongoing HL-LHC upgrade electronics developments, and CERN-based opportunities including LAr operations and preparations for the HL-LHC installation and commissioning phase which will take place during Long Shutdown 3. Our physics program is predominantly focused on searches for beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics, with emphases that include novel electromagnetic signatures, boosted hadronically decaying objects (including the Higgs boson, intermediate vector bosons and top quarks), and the use of AI/ML techniques in physics analyses.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics and should submit a curriculum vitae, a publication list, and a statement describing their research interests. Candidates should also arrange to have three letters of reference submitted on their behalf.

Columbia University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

Application materials and inquiries should be sent to Prof. John Parsons <parsons@nevis.columbia.edu>. Applications are now open, and will be accepted until the position is filled.
