Job description:
The HADES group at the INP PAS (Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences) in Kraków, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in experimental hadron physics. The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in physics analyses of the p+p@4.5 GeV data collected withe the HADES detector with focus on neutral mesons studies.
The successful candidate will work as part of the HADES Collaboration and project oriented on studies of the production, decays and structure of light mesons founded by National Science Center in Poland. The main goals of this project is to extract cross sections for the exclusive and inclusive production of eta, eta prime, omega, f1(1285), their angular distributions, study of dynamics in eta/omega->3pions decays and the time-like structure of the eta and omega mesons (Dalitz decays). For the omega meson its polarization and Spin Density Matrix Elements will be extracted to study the OZI rule violation.
The successful candidate will mostly focus on the exclusive analysis of the f1(1285) and eta prime production as well as the omega->pi0e+e- Dalitz decay.
Contract duration and conditions:
The position will be based at INP PAS, Kraków, with travels and possible short stays at GSI/FAIR.
The duration of the position is 12 months and can be extended up to 24 months, provided a satisfactory outcome of the evaluation after the first 12 months.
The target start date is the beginning of 2025, subject to negotiation with the candidate.
Required qualifications:
- Ph.D. in nuclear or particle physics.
- Experience in experiments in the field of nuclear physics or elementary particles at high or intermediate energy.
- Good programming skills (C/C++).
- Good knowlegde of the ROOT Cern package.
- Good presentation skills.
- Good command of English.
Additional advantage will be:
- Knowlegde of AI (neural networks etc.) methods.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Taking part in the analysis (neutral mesons production) of data collected in elementary reactions p+p/pion+p with the HADES detector at GSI/FAIR facility, Germany,
- Joining the HADES Collaboration and the relevant Physics Working Group, participating in weekly discussions and active participation in its meetings (at least every few weeks),
- Taking part in the Low Level Data Analysis (detector calibration etc.),
- Taking part in data-taking (experimental shifts),
- Presentation of results at meetings and conferences, as well as writing scientific articles and publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Application procedure:
Interested applicants should send:
- Cover letter and information such as: name(s), surname, date of birth, contact details, education, work experience (CV).
- A copy of the diploma for obtaining a doctoral degree.
- A list of scientific and research achievements (e.g., list of publications, speeches at conferences, internships held, participation in projects and research grants).
- 2-3 letters of recommendation.
- Statement of consent for the processing of personal data contained in the CV and other attached documents - if the scope of such data includes special categories of data referred to in Article 9(1) of RODO, which reads: "I consent to the processing of my personal data by IFJ PAN included in my CV and attached documents."
It is a full-time research position with no teaching duties. However, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to supervise B.Sc. and M.Sc (also partially Ph.D.) students.
Salary: according to the max. rate allowed at the INP PAS: ~8100 PLN (brutto).
