IHEP Introduction:
The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing is one of the largest and most prestigious research institutions dedicated to high-energy physics. With over 1500 full-time employees and more than 900 postdocs and graduate students, IHEP serves as a pivotal center for pioneering research in high-energy physics. The institute is committed to major scientific and technological explorations, as well as leading high-energy projects, driving relevant research fields forward. Furthermore, IHEP actively fosters partnerships and collaborations with universities and research institutions worldwide, enriching its contribution to the global scientific community.

CEPC Experiment:
The next generation 100 km Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC) is designed to achieve a maximum electron-position center-of-mass energy of 240 GeV. Its primary goals are to explore the properties of the Higgs boson and search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The CEPC will be located 100 meters underground and will feature two detectors. On December 25, 2023, the Technical Design Report (TDR) for the CEPC accelerator was released, marking a significant milestone. Following the formal release of the TDR, the CEPC will be ready to begin construction during the 15th Five-year Plan (2026-2030), with the goal of starting CEPC operation around 2035.

The CEPC project is positioned as an international endeavor. It represents one of the most complex high-energy physics experiments globally, integrating numerous advanced technologies. This creates an urgent demand for high-tech experimental physics research and engineering talents. The development of the CEPC is progressing rapidly. Attracting high-level talent from overseas, will greatly enhance the project's development, foster international scientific exchange and cooperation.

Job Opportunities:
IHEP is the leading organization responsible for the planning, construction, and operation of the CEPC. As the central institution, IHEP coordinates the various research, engineering, and technological efforts required for the successful development of the CEPC project.

The CEPC project offers a unique and profound opportunity to explore new technologies. We are seeking outstanding young candidates from overseas to work on CEPC detector development, with expertise or potential in either detector software or hardware developments. Areas of interest include:
1: Detector software: Detector simulation and reconstruction of the entire CEPC detector.
2: Detector hardware: Development across all aspects relevant to CEPC silicon tracker system.
3: Readout electronics/DAQ: Development of silicon detector including sensor, ASIC design, electronics, testing, and DAQ systems.

Candidates recruited are targeted at senior level and have two opportunities. First, to apply the CAS talent program. Successful candidates are also allowed to apply for the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) through the Institute of High Energy Physics.
Application Requirements:
  • Age not exceeding 40 years (as of January 1, 2025), open to both Chinese and non-Chinese candidates.
  • Possess a doctoral degree. Candidates should hold a teaching or research position (postdoctoral positions are acceptable) in an overseas university, research institution, or corporate research entry, with at least 36 months of continuous work experience outside China. Those with outstanding achievements may have the work experience requirement relaxed.
  • Have research or technical achievement and the potential to become an outstanding researcher, with the strong teamwork skills.
  • Candidate should not have been employed full-time in China. After obtaining the program, the candidate must resign from their overseas job and work full time in China for no less than three years.
Support:
  • Appointed as associate researcher (equivalent to associate professor) or "Distinguished Young Researchers" and doctoral supervisor. Exceptional candidates can be appointed as a researcher (equivalent to full professor)
  • Research start-up funding: 3-8 million RMB.
  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Transitional apartment and relocation allowance
  • After CAS assessment or as a receipt of the Excellent Young Scientists Fund, a living allowance of 1 million RMB will be provided.
  • Beijing resident permit and assist with arrangements for children's daycare and schooling.
  • Special circumstances can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Diversity:
IHEP values diversity and welcomes candidates from around the world. Beijing, an international city, offers vibrant communities and international schools with complete education systems from kindergarten to high school. For non-Chinese candidates, proficiency in Chinese is not mandatory. We provide comprehensive logistical assistance for international candidates to help with relocation, living arrangements, and all other aspects of settling in Beijing.

Application Details:
Applications should include curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests including plans for future research, or other supporting documents for accomplishments.

We look forward to your applications and to welcoming new talents to the CEPC project.
