Job description:
The Institute of Physics of the University of Rzeszów invites applications
for a 4-year PhD project starting in the fall of 2024.
The PhD project is funded by the Polish National Science Centre and will be supervised by Marta Luszczak (University of Rzeszow) and Agnieszka Luszczak (Cracow University of Technology). It will concern the theory and phenomenology of particle production in photon – photon and photon induced diffractive processes. A special emphasis will be on physics at a future Electron-Ion Collider EIC and at the LHC.

In our project we wish to address the theoretical description of particle production processes that can be studied at an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and investigate new insights on structure of hadrons that can be offered by such experiments. An EIC will be built at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the USA. Collisions of electrons and protons as well as electrons and nuclei will be studied in a broad range of center of mass energies from 20 to 140 GeV.
Apart from its large luminosity, the EIC will also accelerate light and heavy nuclei, and it will be the first polarized electron-hadron collider ever. Our research will put emphasis on the investigation of hadron structure beyond the determination of parton distributions, and the unraveling of qualitatively new phenomena. Our project will concern partially perturbatively calculable processes will be adressed in k_T factorization. But often perturbative methods are not enough and nonperturbative approaches need to be used. Here we will take advantage of a formulation using light-front wave functions of hadrons.
We will also use the color dipole approach to study transitions from the perturbative to nonperturbative regime.

The succsessful candidate will need to pass the entrance exam at the Doctoral School at the University of Rzeszów.
Applications with CV should be sent until Sep. 16 to Marta Luszczak (mluszczak@ur.edu.pl).
